OUR MISSION
The mission of AVOW is to advance the voices of women in public life.
WE VALUE
COURAGEOUS CIVILITY
AVOW, which is nonpartisan, values the difficulty and complexity of discussing tough topics. Courageous civility requires us to respect different perspectives and to seek greater understanding. Courageous civility does not require agreement or resolution.
AVOW values all women's inclusion, equity, and belonging in public life regardless of socioeconomic status, race, color, sexual orientation, nationality, religion, ability, and/or political affiliation.
AVOW values integrity and accountability, identifying facts and truth over rhetoric and hyperbole as women pursue knowledge and express opinions.
INCLUSIVENESS
INTEGRITY
FROM THESE VALUES, AVOW STRIVES FOR:
WOMEN AT EVERY TABLE
AVOW calls for the active and equitable engagement of women in every place decisions are discussed and made. Better decisions are made when women participate in the process. Every sector would be better served with the leadership and guidance of women.
AVOW promotes women working together across the aisle and seeking common goals.
AVOW encourages women to participate at all levels of government, elections, and the community, so the full strength of women’s voices is represented in decisions. Advancing Voices of Women can only happen when women step forward and claim their role.
WOMEN REACHING
ACROSS THE AISLE
A CALL TO ACTION
TO THIS END, AVOW HAS THESE PROGRAMS/PILLARS:
PAUL HELMKE SCHOOL FOR WOMEN IN PUBLIC LIFE
Women's Campaign Institute
AVOW developed the Paul Helmke School for Women in Public Life and held its first series of seminars in the fall of 2017. Since that time the school has evolved and now works to engage women in becoming more involved in elections, political campaigns and appointments to public boards and commissions. The Helmke School’s first seminar expanded into a world class boot camp program called the Women’s Campaign Institute dedicated to taking the mystery out of running for office, assisting with campaigns and seeking governmental appointments.

PAUL HELMKE SCHOOL FOR WOMEN IN PUBLIC LIFE
Profiles in Public Service
As its second program under the Helmke School umbrella, AVOW developed Profiles in Public Service that assists women seeking appointments to public boards and commissions at the state, local, and federal level. This program also assists women after they begin serving in their appointment positions.
